A former Bishop Auckland primary school teacher, Alastair Simpson, has published his first book, aimed at children of that age.
The book, which is available on Amazon and Kindle, is centred on a small boy called Fred. On a school visit to a farm, he sees farm animals and takes a special interest in the chickens, and even holds one.
Several days later he develops an itch and his big brother teases him, convincing Fred that he is turning into a chicken. When strange things happen to Fred’s body, his worst fears become real and he has to devise ways of hiding the fact from his family and the doctor and try to stay one step ahead.
