Shildon AFC Director, Norman Smith, has recently acquired a very old piece of football memorabilia.
The medal, which is hallmarked, is rose gold on solid silver with three small rubies, and has the words ‘Shildon United Club’ engraved upon it. There is also an engraving of what appears to be a castle on the rose gold plaque.
It is thought that the medal, which is about the size of a match box, may date back to the late 19th century or early 20th century, when Shildon football club was first established.
