Flying Scotsman event planning

The world’s most famous locomotive, Flying Scotsman, will be at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon from 23rd to the 31st July.

This high profile event is likely to attract significant numbers of visitors to Shildon.

Over the past months, the team at Locomotion has been working with advisors including the County Durham Safety Advisory Group, Durham County Council and Durham Constabulary to develop detailed plans for the event.

These plans are designed to ensure that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience, and that local residents and businesses are not adversely affected by the event. There will be no free public parking at the museum during the event.

Park and ride services will be running from Hardwick Park, Sedgefield at a cost of £3 per person.

The museum anticipates that there will be a second park and ride service from Bishop Auckland (details to be confirmed).

Blue badge parking will be available at the museum car parks, on a first come, first served basis

There will be a one-way route for coach and taxi drop off points via Dabble Duck Industrial Estate and No Parking cones will be installed in key areas including Dale Road and Hackworth Close.

Local residents and businesses are invited to a presentation at Locomotion where they will be able to learn more about the event programme. This will be held in the Collection Building, off Dale

Road Industrial Estate, on Tuesday 19th July at 5pm and all are welcome.
