Another poor batting performance by Shildon Railway Cricket Club’s 1st team left visitors Silksworth with an easy task when it came to their turn to bat at the Sportsfield last Saturday. Shildon’s batsmen failed to get to grips with a benign wicket and equally unthreatening bowling and slumped to 130 all out, with only Michael Lumley (49) and Matthew Brown (25) looking anything like being in form. In reply Silksworth eased to a seven wicket win.
The second team’s trip to Silksworth made up somewhat for this disappointing display when the team returned home with a solid seven wicket victory under its belt. The home side was shot out for only 105 and Ben Trotter’s 61 ensured a comfortable success.
“The first team lads are well aware that their performances have not been good enough in recent weeks. There can be no excuses and they need to knuckle down and put things right,” said a club spokesman.
On Friday evening Shildon Locos, the boys in pink, lost to hot favourites Tudhoe, in the first game of the league’s F15 Tournament. Simon Davis, Tudhoe’s prolific run maker, scored a cracking century and despite Chris Young’s hard hitting innings, Shildon finished 40 runs short. This Saturday sees the first team make the trip to Ryhope, whilst the second team seek another win, at home, in the reverse fixture.
