On Sunday, Ferryhill Town Youth Under 14s rounded off a fantastic season with a 4-1 home win against Eaglescliffe Elementis and a celebration to mark their emphatic title-winning achievement.
Last season this team really struggled for results but they stuck together and came through this term as a squad to win their division of the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League.
The side won an impressive 20 of their 22 games, drawing one and losing just one game all season to win the league by a clear 13 points having scored 105 goals and conceded just 24.
They showed the spirit of champions after going behind early in the game.
With Tyler being out of action, Marc, Aidan and Aaron stepped up to fill his boots in goal.
Ferryhill got into their stride midway through the first half.
A long kickout by Aidan found George, who seemed to be going too wide, but he hit a fantastic shot across the keeper and into the bottom corner to bring the sides level.
Ferryhill soon took the lead themselves when Aaron got the first of his eventual hat-trick to put Ferryhill in charge.
The hosts shuffled the pack at the break and on came Jamie to have his best half of football this season, he was unplayable at times.
Ferryhill’s defence and midfield were solid throughout and allowed Aaron and Zach to get forward as much as they could.
Aaron got on the end of a shot by Zach to score from close range and wrapped up his hat-trick with a great left foot finish. He then went into goal, for the remainder of the game.
The top performance of the first half went to Jake, with Jamie getting the award in the second half.
Overall though, Aaron got player of the match for his goals, work rate and his goalkeeping too.
“They all deserve so much credit to keep performing in every game, week after week. Well done to all involved,” said coach Paul Mckeown.
