For their final away game of the season, Ferryhill Athletic did the double over Leam Rangers Reserves running out 8-1 winners in Gateshead on Saturday.

On what was a hard, unpredictable pitch it didn’t take long for the away side to open their account when Kieron Richardson got his first goal of what would be another hat-trick.

Ferryhill dominated throughout against a young opposition, with Reece Wilkinson shooting wide, and Kieron Gillham firing over the bar in the early stages.

Alex White added skill and experience to the side and controlled much of the game for Ferryhill.

Athletic had nearly all of the play, although Leo Strange in the away goal did have to make a good save to deny the home side their one chance.

Will Houlahan made it look easy when got the second, but Leam Rangers’ keeper then made a great save to deny Alex Quinn before Reece Wilkinson got the third following an unchallenged run for half the length of the field.

With ten minutes to go until half-time Richardson doubled his tally when he chipped the keeper, before Joe Langton headed over and Quinn had a shot saved.

Into the second half and Leam Rangers Reserves somehow managed to claw one back, after the referee missed an offside.

Langton headed the ball home five minutes in to make it 5-1, before Richardson completed his hat-trick with a superb headed goal.

Leam Rangers Reserves looked out of steam by now and Ellis Hare got the seventh with a good header, following good work from Matty Ashcroft-Brown on the right.

An easy tap-in from Chris Devine rounded off the scoring to make it 8-1 at the end.

Athletic now have two home games remaining to complete their season, the first of which is next Saturday at home to Shildon Railway, with kick-off at 2pm.
