Families across Ferryhill and Chilton are set to benefit from the expansion of free breakfast clubs, with every primary school in the area now set to offer the scheme from September.
The latest Government announcement has confirmed that Ferryhill Station Primary School, Broom Cottages Primary School and Chilton Academy will introduce free breakfast clubs at the start of the new school year.
The news follows an earlier round of funding which saw Cleves Cross Primary School and Dean Bank Primary School selected to receive support for their breakfast club provision. Together, the announcements mean that every primary school in Ferryhill and Chilton will now be able to offer free breakfast clubs to pupils.
The clubs provide children with access to a healthy breakfast before the school day begins, helping them arrive in class ready to learn while also providing practical support for working families through earlier drop-off options.
Alan Strickland MP welcomed the announcement and said:
“Having recently visited a free breakfast club locally, I saw first-hand the positive difference these programmes make for children and families. It was fantastic to see children enjoying a healthy breakfast and starting the school day ready to learn.
“By September, every primary school in Ferryhill and Chilton will be offering a free breakfast club. This will help more children start the day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast while giving parents and carers additional flexibility and helping to ease pressures on family budgets. I know this investment will make a real difference to households across our area.”
