The Auckland Project Summer Fest – Royal Northern Sinfonia

See the saxophone in a whole new light in the talented hands of Jess Gillam and the string players of Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Hailing from Ulverston in Cumbria, Jess shot to fame on BBC Young Musician on the Year. She’s one of those rare musicians who makes performing look truly effortless, seamlessly blending music from different eras and genres and chatting with the warm conversation that’s made her a huge hit on radio and TV. It’s a match made in heaven with the bright, vibrant sound of the UK’s only full-time chamber orchestra.

The set-list for the show spans four centuries of sensational music, from classical pieces by Bach, Elgar and Dvořák to a pop favourite by David Bowie. Throw in a bit of folk, some vibrant jazz, and a couple of contemporary compositions written especially for Jess and it’ll be a night to remember.
