International Men’s Day – Bishop Auckland

Bishop Auckland Town Hall is celebrating the men and boys of Bishop Auckland on Wednesday 15 November from 6pm-8pm to coincide with International Men’s Day. The event celebrates how men can lead by example, and encourages men and boys to focus on their health and wellbeing.

The team at the Town Hall, in collaboration with artist, Richard Bliss, have organised the event. Local groups including ManHealth, The British Heart Foundation, Scope, and Sense, as well as other local organisations that support men as volunteers or members will all have stalls at the event. There will be arts and crafts activities, the cafe will be open as will the exhibition spaces.

“International men’s day is a chance to celebrate the positive contribution that men make to our communities,” said Richard, whose exhibition The Quest for the Perfect Shirt can currently be seen at Bishop Auckland Town Hall. “I like to organise community events as part of my exhibition work”, he added, “and as my exhibition is about modern masculinity, running an event to celebrate International Men’s Day, seemed a great thing to do”.

The Lord Lieutenant of County Durham will be present, viewing Richard’s work and the work of boys from Auckland Youth and Community Centre and Parkside Academy. Everyone is welcome, including women and girls.
