Thomas Forrest from Spennymoor, has been chosen to represent England in an international water polo tournament in Spain from the 1st to 4th January at just 13 years old.
He is one of only 26 boys chosen from the whole of England to represent his country at his age group in the competition.
Thomas plays water polo for Sedgefield Water Polo Club (based at Newton Aycliffe), competing in competitions for his own age group and up to under 17’s.
In September, he was invited to trial for one of the five talent centres in England, where he successfully gained a place in the squad.
From January, this training is held in Rotherham every other Friday evening, adding 3 hours to his current training schedule of 10 hours a week.
Thomas has achieved a lot in water polo over the last few years, however this year has been exceptional for him, not only gaining a place in the England Talent squad, he ended the season as the top goal scorer in the water polo league he plays in (Wakefield and District league) by 19 goals.
Thomas has represented the North East twice this year in national tournaments, firstly playing for under 16’s in Liverpool where he was part of the winning team, and secondly playing for under 14’s in Walsall where he was awarded top goal scorer across the whole competition.
