St Mary’s Juniors were recently proud to be announced winners of the Durham Dales Junior Sports Club of the Year for 2014 at a Barnard Castle School Awards Night.
With over 180 people present and over 70 nominations in different categories, this was a great accolade for the club, especially when one of their players, Cobie Woods, was also awarded the Physical Activity Achievement of the Year.
The club will be welcoming the Rt Reverend Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham, on Saturday 4th October, who is planning to look around the club, which boasts 20 teams and over 350 young players and coaches.
Last weekend St Mary’s had 11 games at home with 17 teams in action, resulting in 11 wins and 2 draws.
The weekend games started with the Under 18 Angels who had a great 8-3 win over Spraire Lasses, with goals from Kimberley Dodds, Ellen Dinning and Dani Stephenson.
The Under 16 Aces also had a great 5-0 win over Stockton West End with goals from MOM Steven Taylor (2), Brett Davison and Myles Swift.
This was followed by the Under 16 Kings also having an excellent 6-0 win over Washington, with James Hauxwell keeping a clean sheet in goal and goals scored by Harry Coulthard (3), Sam Parnaby (2) and Jack Richardson scoring his first goal for the team.
The Under 15s lost to Gateshead in the County Cup in a close game which was a 1-1 draw for most of the game, with Johnson Ballan and Callum Guy scoring.
The Under 14s lost to last year’s runners-up in the league Marton Blues, with Carl Stout scoring and Ben Lowrie hitting the bar.
The Under 13 Aces had an excellent 2-1 win over Boro Rangers with goals from Tom Aldsworth and MOM Adam Dovaston.
The Under 13 Kings drew 1-1 with Newton Aycliffe Juniors with Charlie Ellison scoring.
The Under 12s had a very good 4-0 win over Kader with goals from Oliver Johnson (3) and Jack Purdham.
The Under 12 Angels lost out to St Cuthbert’s and Washington AFC in 2 very good games.
The Under 11 Aces continued their great form with a 5-0 win over Trimdon with goals from MOM Cameron Bass (2), Ryan Byrne (2) and Charlie Richardson.
The Under 11 Kings also had a great 3-2 win away at Stockton Yellows with goals from MOM Sam Berry, Robson Clarey, Sonny Richardson and Luke Wharton.
The Under 10 Aces had a good 3-1 win over Stockton Town Blues with goals from Luke Pinkney, Danny Shaw and Finley Stevens, while the Under 10 Kings drew 0-0 at Billingham Synthonia with Lennon Seymour MOM.
The Under 9s lost out to Golden Flats in a hard fought game with Antoni Biniszkiewicz MOM and Jac Richardson making some good saves.
The Under 8 Aces beat Norton & Stockton Ambers with goals from MOM Finlay Rose, Charlie Berry, Jake Pinkney, Dylan Robson and Liam Cunningham. Adam Yates was MOM in the friendly game along with Noah Borley starring.
The Under 8 Kings also had a good win away at Norton & Stockton Blacks with goals from Ben Crinnion, Cobie Woods, and Tom Brown. Owen King, Blake Milroy and James Whales starred in the friendly.
The Under 7 Aces played their first home game and also had a great win over Norton & Stockton Ambers with goals from MOM Jamie Wright (3), Mason Wright (2) and Jayden Bowes.
The club wish to thank Emma Pennington – fundraising, and Debbie Hindmarch – clubhouse manager, who have stepped down after many years of voluntary service.
