A generous donation made in memory of the late Joan Heaviside will help support the ongoing upkeep of Ferryhill’s much-loved poppy displays.
Following Joan’s funeral, her daughters, Anne Thompson and Gillian Craigie, donated the collection in their mother’s memory to Ferryhill Remembers, where it will be used to purchase wool needed to repair and maintain the town’s poppy nets.
The poppy nets, which have become a striking and meaningful tribute within the community, require regular care and restoration to ensure they remain in good condition for future displays. This thoughtful donation will play an important role in preserving their appearance and significance.
Anne and Gillian gesture not only honours her mother’s memory but also contributes to a wider community effort to remember and commemorate those who have served.
