Big-hearted people who have made a difference in their communities are being sought as nominations are made for the Chairman’s Medal. Durham County Council is looking for individuals or organisations that have done something great for their community.
The Chairman’s Medal is presented to individuals and groups to recognise significant achievement and outstanding effort in all walks of life. It’s the council’s highest honour and Area Action Partnerships (AAPs) are looking for nominations from across the county in the run-up to a major presentation event in April this year.
The medal has been County Durham’s top civic award since it was introduced in 2007 and Durham County Council Chairman, Pauline Charlton, will be holding a ceremony in April 2014 to award chosen individuals for voluntary effort or outstanding charitable organisations. The award is open to all ages.
Cllr Charlton is asking for local nominations to go to the local AAPs. There will be 14 winners this year, representing all AAP areas across the county. The Chairman is working with the AAPs to find people and organisations that have gone above and beyond to make a difference.
Cllr Charlton said: “There are so many unsung heroes in County Durham who do things for their community that can go unnoticed. “I want this presentation event to be a celebration of the achievements and effort that people of our county put in every day – a little time to reflect on the excellent work that people do for each other.”
The deadline for nominations is 14th February 2014. Completed forms should be sent to the Chairman’s Office, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham DH1 5UF.
Anyone can nominate an organisation or individual for a medal.
