Town Mayor, Cllr Shirley Quinn presented her 19th award this December to Lesley Bowes, during the Town Council meeting.
Lesley was born and grew up on Jubilee Fields estate, where she still lives. She worked in many Government departments for 33 years before taking early retirement to receive treatment and recover from cancer.
Lesley’s father, Ossie Bowes, was one of Jubilee Fields Community Centre’s first managers, a fact that Lesley is immensely proud of. Following in his footsteps, Lesley channeled her energy into fund raising during her cancer recovery, raising over £20,000 for charity, demonstrating her commitment to giving back and making a positive impact.
She became a trustee of the community centre in 2023. When a vacancy became available, Lesley applied and successfully became part of the team and resigned as trustee.
Lesley said: “I am immensely proud to follow in my dad’s footsteps. Every day, I strive to create a welcoming, supportive environment for everyone, and my efforts to serve and uplift our community are at the heart of everything I do”.
Mayor Quinn said: “Lesley is another amazing example of a committed individual who makes a welcoming community environment for all. Well done and thank you.”
