Thanks to the hard work of the Town Council and the generosity of our three County Councillors, Dean Bank Recreation Ground football pitch has been brought up to Wearside League division 1 standard with a hand rail around the pitch and new dug outs, reports Fraser Reynolds.
In addition, solar panels have been installed on the clubhouse roof to save costs and reduce the carbon footprint. Ferryhill Athletic can now press on next season to move up to the next level as part of their rebuilding plans.
Only formed 12 months ago, the Latics only missed out on promotion this season by one point, despite winning their last three games. Continuity is going to be the key word as most of last season’s squad, who were just starting to gel as time ran out, are coming back and manager Lee Jewett has several new signings coming on board to strengthen the squad, with Kieron Richardson announced at the weekend. Promotion and winning some silverware is the aim for the coming season.
The club has eight pre-season friendlies lined up for July, all in Ferryhill, and training has already resumed. In addition, Ferryhill Town under 17s have come on board and will become Ferryhill Athletic’s under 18 development side. This will give local young lads a clear pathway into senior football.
To round off the first season, there will be a presentation event at Ferryhill Club on Saturday 1 July featuring the fabulous Sneaky Blinders. Tickets are priced at £5 each and can be obtained from any committee member or from behind the bar at the club.
