Shildon Railway Cricket Club is preparing for the new season, which sees the club make an historic move.
The two senior sides will be playing in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Premier Cricket League, which was founded in 1892 and is the second oldest cricket league in the world.
The league is recognised as amongst the best in the country with the highest standards expected both on and off the field.
The Railwaymen will be starting at the bottom with the first team competing in Division Three, playing on Saturdays and the second team playing in Sunday Division Two.
“This is a huge step for our club and we are excited by the new challenges and opportunities this move offers us,” said club chairman John Brennan.
Indoor nets are at St. John’s School, Bishop Auckland, on Tuesdays from 8.00 until 9.30pm and outdoor practices commence on Tuesday 7th April at 6pm at the Hackworth Road Ground (the BR) to which all players are welcome.
This season the club will run two junior sides at Under 15 and Under 18 levels with both teams competing in the Durham Cricket Board Junior Cricket League South West Division.
Junior outdoor practices are held on Friday evenings at 6pm, starting on 10th April.

“The club welcomes players of all ages and abilities, so if you fancy trying cricket you know where to come,” said a club spokesman.
All players are urged to attend a special pre-season meeting to be held at the BR on Thursday 26th March at 7pm when detailed information about the new season and registrations for senior and junior players will take place.
