A credit union has opened its doors to residents of Shildon to help tackle expensive high street lending. NEFirst Credit Union (formerly Durham, Cestria and Gateshead Credit Union) will operate weekly drop-in sessions offering residents support and information on its affordable saving and money lending services. Based in Foundations Church Street, Shildon, the credit union is the first company to lease space in the building which is owned and managed by homes and communities business livin, in partnership with Sunderland AFC charity, the Foundation of Light.
The credit union provides secure saving options and low cost loans and finance solutions, as well as life insurance and loan protection and is designed to help people with poor or bad credit ratings. As part of the new drop-in sessions, the credit union is also looking for volunteers to help run its services.
Sid Rooke from the credit union said, “We are looking to recruit a number of volunteers who can support us to deliver drop in sessions for one-hour a week. Full training will be provided and it’s a great way to get involved and learn new skills.”
NeFirst Credit Union drop in sessions will run every Thursday between 12pm and 1pm at Foundations, 51-55 Church Street.
