Creative recovery through art

A new Art and 12 Step Recovery Project is now half way through its 6 month pilot programme in Bishop Auckland.

The Creative Recovery Community Association is a volunteer run and peer led project that exists to share the 12 step recovery programme with those that wish to recover and achieve abstinence from alcoholism, drug dependency and eating disorders.

This is taught through art and recovery workshops and developing a supportive community that will help people through the early stages of sobriety, into the lifelong recovery fellowships.
A spokesperson said, “We have received funding through donations and The Arts Council and Russell Brand’s ‘Give It Up’ Comic Relief grants, so all our services are free. We are an independent organisation, and are non-political and non-religious.

“We are now inviting self referrals or referrals through local agencies, and invite potential members (and their guests), agencies, partners and future friends to visit the studio by appointment, and find out more about our programme.”

The project is based in the Discovery Centre, 17 North Bondgate, Bishop Auckland.
