Council says no to fireworks display

At a meeting of Shildon Town Council on Monday 9th March, councillors unanimously rejected proposals to support a local fireworks display for residents.

An event proposal was put forward by the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership, in which it was recommended that Durham County Council’s event team would organise and support delivery of the event, which would take place on land near Tindale retail park on 7th November.

Shildon Town Council were asked to support the event, estimated to cost in the region of £35,000, with a donation of £3,000.

However, Shildon town councillors voted to decline this request, stating that they felt the money could be spent more wisely.
