Blade Taekwondo, the martial arts school in Bishop Middleham, is reporting some very exciting news with lead instructor and athlete for Blade, Corey Wilson participating in the Northern Regional Team GB Poomsae Squad Selections in January.
Corey attended the selections at the GB Taekwondo National Centre in Manchester, home of Olympic medalists and athletes alike.
This was a four-hour training session in which athletes showcased their skills for the sport in the hopes of being picked for the GB Poomsae Squad for the year ahead Corey came away knowing he did his best, and hoped it was enough.
After two days recovering from all the hard training, Corey received an email from the squad manager saying that they were delighted to announce that he had been invited into the Team GB North Regional Poomsae Squad as an officially selected athlete and also informing him of the dates in which he will be training regularly in Manchester.
Working hard for this moment for a long time, Corey was thrilled, to say the least, that he’d finally made it to be among some of the best players in this country.
He is currently working towards continuing to prove he has what it takes by competing as much as he can, and trying to secure as many medals and titles as he can this year.
In addition to this, he also plans on enhancing his own students’ abilities at competitions.
He his also keen to expand his career in what he describes as “a bit of fun,” by competing in sport taekwondo as a fighter alongside some of his more experienced student athletes.
Corey said: “This is a fantastic achievement not only for myself, but for the club I work so hard every day to build better and stronger.
“A position like this means the world to me, and I’m sure it will help take Blade Taekwondo to many new and exciting places along the way”
