Pat and Alan Channing from Byers Green celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on 25 April.
Pat was born on 23 October 1943 in Binchester and grew up in Lodge Street, Byers Green.
Alan was born on 14 June 1941 in Bearstead Jewish Hospital, Hampton Court.
Whan they first met in Carvelle Coffee Bar in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, Pat was working in Kingston Gate Army Camp and Alan was a heavy goods driver.
Alan was a teddy boy and Pat loved clothing and fashion. Both enjoyed dancing to Rock and Roll music, Pat being a fan of Billy Fury.
They married on 25 April 1964 at the local register office followed by a reception at The Bear Pub in Walton upon Thames.
Whilst living in Walton upon Thames they had their first child before emigrating to Australia, where they lived for three and a half years.
They then returned to the UK, living first in Spennymoor before settling in Byers Green where they had their second child.
Alan always loved his motorbikes (especially his Triumphs) and now enjoys classic car shows.
Pat enjoys reading and also loves classic car shows. They always enjoyed holidays to the Isle of Wight.
These days they love to go to Sam Zair’s Cafe in Bishop Auckland to meet up with friends Sam, Lesley, Billy, the two Kevin’s and other friends.
Their love for each other has conquered any obstacles along the way.
Their daughter Julie said: “I just want to wish my beautiful parents a very special 60th Wedding Anniversary, with love from me, Lee, Elle, Charlie and all the family.”
