Volunteers at Waverley Terrace community garden in Shildon, supported by Shildon Town council, recently welcomed students from Bishop Auckland college.
After a gardening warm up exercise session delivered by Elliot Snowball, local health trainer for Health Express, the group of Kickstart students worked with members of the garden to tidy and plant produce for the community.
They also set away vegetables for local school children to plant over the coming months.
Paula Nelson, project manager for Shildon Alive! A Saint John’s Church Community Project, funded by the Big Lottery, thanked the students and their tutors and commented: “The students have been a pleasure to work with, their efforts will make a huge difference to our gardening with young people this year.
“They are welcome back anytime to volunteer in the future.”
