Each year, Chilton Town Council give out an award for a Community Champion nominated by members of the public. This year 2023/24, the award was given to a group of men affectionately known as The Coffin Dodgers.
They group meet every week and raise funds with the donations going to worthy causes. The group have donated money to help many local families who are experiencing difficulties, including an ex-serviceman who was homeless.
They have also donated money to several charities, including the Salvation Army, RNLI, and the Gurkhas. They have helped with local events, including providing Easter Eggs for the children who attended the last Easter Fun Day.
“The Coffin Dodgers can always be relied upon to help support the local community,” said Cllr Pearl Malpas, who was Mayor during the year of the award.
Cllr Malpas presented the group with a certificate and a bottle for their next raffle.
