There will be a final chance to see Class A4 locomotives Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower, in the Spotlight. Dwight D Eisenhower and Dominion of Canada can be seen in a different light during the evening A4 Spotlight sessions on Saturday 19th April and Sunday 20th April (5pm to 8pm both evenings) at Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon.
Spotlight will allow you to see the locos as you have never seen them before, and both locos will be lit in a different way. Through the use of lighting and sound a sense of movement will be given to the static Locos and visitors will be able to step onto the footplates. A4 spotlight is a joint project between Locomotion and a group of students from Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance. The light and sound installation is a new opportunity and a great chance to get some different and final photos of the locos before they leave (last day that they can be seen on display in the UK is 21st April, 2014).
During the Easter Holidays grown-up visitors can also enjoy a meet the author session on Saturday 12th April (11.30am and 2.30pm in the Collection building) with Sheila Dibnah about her new book ‘A Cast Iron Will’.
In this memoir, Sheila reveals the story of her marriage to Fred Dibnah. From their first meeting in Bolton to the final, troubled days of Fred’s life when he cut her out of his Will, she presents a moving, funny and sensitive tribute to this great man.
Visitors to the museum on 12th April can also enjoy the museum’s annual Stationary Engine Rally between 10am and 5pm.
In addition families can enjoy access to the outdoor children’s play area, giant games and free A4 themed arts activities throughout the Easter break.
