The multi-million pound leisure park, set to be build in St Helen’s, has been put on the shelf after developers backed out of the project due to the economic climate.
Although the Football Stadium and Sainsbury’s supermarket are still set to go ahead, the cinema, bowling alley and restaurants have been put on hold.
A Director of Terrace Hill, the property Developers leading the project, said, “It is regrettable, but unlikely, that this element of our proposals will proceed.
“However, we are actively looking at how this part of the land can be developed and are hopeful that we will have movement on that in the near future.”
Following the news that the Sainsbury’s development is still set to proceed, supermarket giant Tesco are also hoping to build a store nearby.
It is hoped that the store will be built by the end of the year on the Ebac factory site at St Helen Auckland, and will be one of the first eco stores in the region.
Ebac, manufacturers of dehumidifiers and water coolers, plan to move their base to a more modern building nearby.
