A series of specialist markets is set to launch across County Durham, including a Christmas Market in Spennymoor.

Durham County Council has partnered with social enterprise Baccanalia to organise bespoke events, bringing an array of unique markets to town centres across the county.

The events come with thanks to funding from the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund that provides pride in place by investing in communities across the UK.

The calendar of events gets underway next week with a farmer’s market in Consett, eventually concluding on Saturday 14 December with Spennymoor’s Christmas Market which will feature a winter wonderland filled with local flavours and festive cheer for the whole community.

Additional markets will take place in the coming weeks and months in Chester-le-Street, Barnard Castle, Crook, Seaham, Bishop Auckland and Stanley.

Baccanalia director, Thomas Wales said: “Following the success of our first specialist market in Newton Aycliffe, we welcome showcasing the diversity of food offerings and talent across the county.

“We want to bring communities together with markets such as this and support County Durham’s local producers, artisans, and businesses.

“These events will drive footfall, boost local economies and showcase the diversity of food offerings and talent in the North East.

“We eagerly ask everyone to join us in celebrating County Durham as the number one food destination in the UK.”

With a focus on supporting local businesses and artisans, these events are all about nurturing community spirit and highlighting the best of what County Durham has to offer.
