Chilton Mayor, Cllr Sue Reece, recently played host to civic leaders from across the region for her annual “Chain Gang” Mayor at Home event, bringing together neighbouring mayors and officials to promote the town and raise funds for charity.
The event, held under brilliant sunshine at Pavilion Park, served as a fantastic opportunity to showcase Chilton.
Civic parties and friends travelled from across the North East to attend, with representatives making the journey from South Tyneside, Gateshead, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton, Sedgefield, Great Aycliffe, Shildon, Peterlee, and Spennymoor.
Beyond fostering strong regional ties, the event successfully raised vital funds for Young Minds, one of the Mayor’s designated mental health charities.
Mayor Reece said: “Thanks to the hard work of a dedicated team and the generosity of attendees, the event raised a grand total of £472. This included a special additional donation from Alice and George Ellison.
“The success of the day was made possible through the invaluable support of Deputy Mayor Pearl Malpas, Mayor’s Consort Elizabeth Bruce, fellow councillors David English, Diane Bright and Town Clerk, Claire Llewelyn.
“Heartfelt thanks also go to family members Sarah, Ben and Ayesha English, Suzanne Stokoe, Patricia Bruce, and John Oley for their tireless efforts in ensuring the day ran smoothly.”
Reflecting on the turnout and the community effort, the Mayor expressed her absolute pleasure at hosting such a vibrant regional gathering.
Attendees at the event thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful setting of Chilton’s Pavilion Park in the summer sun — and the Mayor now has the unique task of deciding exactly where to hang a large pink flamingo, which was kindly gifted by the English family!
