Chilton Town Council began its nine days of celebrations for the HR Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee when it had a special opening of its exhibition Life in Chilton and Windlestone during the 70 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of Durham County Council Cllr Beaty Bainbridge and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Neil Schneider and was opened by the Chilton Town Council Mayor Michael Young. The Mayor was assisted by the newly appointed Town Crier for the Platinum celebration, whilst the exhibition was created by the 150years of Chilton and Windlestone Group.
The exhibition has been open to the public all week and will end on Sunday as it will run along side the Street Party from 2pm till 6pm.
The exhibition shows hundreds of photos of Chilton and Windlestone pulled together into eight different display boards from the 1950’s to date. A further eight boards are also displayed which focus on the Queens life across that time.
Ben Race, Capture Films and creator of the exhibition commented ‘This has taken many hours to put together and a big thanks to the residents of the Town and beyond for providing us with some fantastic photos. If you have not had the chance to come down during the week then I suggest you pop down on Sunday and take a peek – it’s a great trip down memory lane’.
The main street through Chilton will be blocked off for the ‘street party’, but you can park down a side street and walk round to Hutton House for the exhibition.
Plus, don’t forget to bring along any old photos you may have of Chilton and Windlestone, especially the more recent ones as the 150years group need more for their up-and-coming documentaries which will be launched in September. We will be able to scan on the day and give them straight back to you.
Chilton Town Council would like to thank Marilyn’s Hair Salon, Veolia and Livin Housing for their generous donations/grant towards the Platinum celebrations programme.
