King James I Academy Sixth Form students are celebrating another year of success, following A-Level and Sixth Form vocational qualification results and many are now looking forward to starting degree courses at universities across the country.
Whilst results in all A-Level subjects were positive, outcomes were particularly strong in STEM subjects where 81% of students secured grades A*-C. In Maths, 50% of students achieved an A grade, and more than 80% of students achieved at least a C grade. In Further Maths, two thirds of all students achieved an A* or A grade. In A-Level Computing, almost 70% of students achieved A* or A grades, and all students achieved at least a C grade. Elsewhere, in both Art, and Photography, 100% of students achieved A* – C grades.
In vocational subjects, we again saw a 100% pass rate which is a fantastic achievement. 66% of students achieved the highest possible grades (Distinction* or Distinction), compared with 55% last year, and 24% achieved a Distinction*. In Human Biology, 71% of students achieved a Distinction or Distinction* grade, and 72% achieved a Distinction or Distinction* grade in Business. In Health & Social Care, 73% of students achieved a Distinction or Distinction* grade, which is an exceptional achievement.
King James is immensely proud of all students but special congratulations go to James Morland, pictured here, who achieved A grades in Maths and Further Maths, and two further A grades in Physics and Computer Science. James will now continue on to Durham University to study a Master’s Degree in Physics and Astronomy. Freddie Wilkinson achieved an A* grade in Biology, an A grade in Maths, and an A grade in Further Maths, and Jay McPhee achieved an A* grade in Computer Science, an A grade in Maths, a Distinction* grade in IT, as well as a Merit in Food Science; he will now study a Degree in Cyber Security at university. Holly Metcalfe was awarded Distinction* grades in Sport and Health & Social Care, and Distinction grades in Food Science and Human Biology, and lastly, a special mention for Emily Bell, who achieved Distinction grades in Health & Social Care, Human Biology and Psychology, and is now going to study Mental Health Nursing at Leeds Beckett University.
