Cathedral honour for Vicar

Rev’d Matt Tarling of Spennymoor and Whitworth.

Vicar of Spennymoor and Whitworth, Rev’d Matt Tarling, has been invited by the Bishop of Durham to become a Non-Residentiary Canon of Durham Cathedral.

The honour is in recognition of Matt’s ministry to the Durham Diocese, including more than ten years as vicar in the town. He will become a member of the College of Canons which is an advisory council to the Cathedral, a role alongside his role as a vicar locally.

Rev’d Matt said: “It feels a privilege to be asked to become a non-residentiary canon. I hope I’ll be able to be a support and encouragement to the new Dean and chapter of the cathedral as they seek to welcome pilgrims, lead in prayer and proclaim Christ Jesus as Lord in Durham.”

Rev’d Matt will be installed during a service of Evensong at Durham Cathedral on Sunday 14 January at 3pm and all are welcome to attend.
