In the glorious sunshine of the Butterwick Hospice’s grounds, Bishop Auckland Civic Society Chair, Dr Bob McManners presented the Hospice’s Senior Fundraiser, Helen Shaw, with a cheque for £725.
As a charity, the Butterwick Hospice depends on public donations to maintain their compassionate care vocation: looking after people with life limiting illnesses and to help support their families.
The Hospice is currently being renovated in stages and the charity will be increasing their fundraising activities soon.
All donations are appreciated.
As Helen said: “Donations, like this one from the Bishop Auckland Civic Society, help us provide a compassionate care service for our residents.
“As well as the service to those with life limiting illnesses, we also help support their families during these difficult times.”
Dr McManners said: “The Civic Society helps support the cultural and historical legacy of Bishop Auckland, into the future.
“In running our Annual Quiz for about 30 years, we have been able to contribute to organisations that help people in our Town.
“I’m delighted to present this donation – on behalf of the Civic Society and our supporters – to such a worthy cause.”
At the Bishop Auckland Civic Society’s Town Quiz held last December, a total of £725 was collected at the annual fundraising night.
Many of the Civic Society members are involved with the organising of this annual event.
Quizmaster extraordinaire Glynn Wales again provided a wide-ranging set of questions and his wife Gillian provides administrative support.
The Annual Quiz has run for over 20 years and is a popular event in Bishop Auckland’s annual calendar.
A main aim has been to raise funds for local charities.
Dr Bob McManners and his wife Stefa link with Glynn and Gillian Wales, to run the annual event.
It is well supported by businesses and residents from Bishop Auckland, whose contributions are greatly appreciated.
