Boy seriously injured in quad bike RTA

Part of Redworth Road in Shildon has been closed for several hours this afternoon (Wednesday 5 March) after a serious road traffic accident in the early afternoon.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a quad bike and a lamppost in Redworth Road, Shildon, just before 1pm today.

“A 16-year-old boy, who is believed to have been on the quad at the time, suffered serious injuries to his head and leg and was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance.

“The road has been closed while emergency services attend the scene. Drivers are asked to find an alternative route.”
