Bishop Auckland transforms into Christmas Town

Bishop Auckland’s Christmas Town expects to welcome over 25,000 visitors next weekend.

Get ready for a winter wonderland like no other as Christmas Town returns to Bishop Auckland from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 November.

With numbers anticipated in excess of 25,000, this Christmas extravaganza stands to rival the mighty Bishop Auckland Food Festival in terms of visitor numbers and start the festive celebrations in style.

With strong contenders for Christmas’ top spot between The Auckland Project’s AGLOW, Lumiere and Christmas Town, Bishop Auckland seems to be on its way to becoming the event capital of the county.

Bishop Auckland’s Christmas Town is produced by the same duo who bring the successful Street Food Markets to the town.

Both CIC organisations, Baccanalia and Bridge Creative, give thanks to Christmas Town’s principal partner, Bishop Auckland Town Council, and program sponsors, Manor House Hotel & Spa and Care Connect, for their invaluable support.

They also thank Durham County Council for their generous funding of the event.

Director of event Baccanalia, Thomas Wales said: “Bishop Auckland’s Christmas Town exemplifies a community united to celebrate the potential of our home.

“As we approach the close of 2023, Baccanalia will have orchestrated over 50,000 visits to the town centre, a testament to our commitment to shared success. We eagerly extend this success to everyone who joins us in celebrating Christmas Town.”

Bishop Auckland’s Christmas Town is a cherished seasonal family festival that has captured the hearts of residents and visitors alike since its inception.

The enchanting event transforms the historic town into a winter wonderland, celebrating the magic and spirit of Christmas.

With a rich tapestry of attractions, live entertainment, heartwarming experiences, and opportunities to support local businesses, Christmas Town is fast becoming a beloved tradition, bringing the community together during the holiday season with lots of free elements for everyone to enjoy.

Highlights this year will include:
giant tipi bars,
the popular ice rink,
