Bishop Auckland came together in heartfelt remembrance this past weekend, honouring the brave men and women who served—and those who fell—during times of war and conflict. The town’s Remembrance Service was a moving testament to the enduring spirit of unity, gratitude, and reflection that defines our community.
The service, held at the War Memorial and later within the peaceful walls of St Anne’s Church, was a poignant gathering of residents, veterans, civic leaders, and faith representatives. We extend our sincere thanks to St Anne’s Church for graciously hosting both elements of the service and for providing a space of reverence and reflection. This year’s commemoration was marked by a powerful show of ecumenical solidarity, with ministers from the Methodist and Baptist churches joining together with Rev Keddilty and representatives of St Anne’s Clergy, in prayer and remembrance. Their shared words and presence reminded us that remembrance transcends denomination, bringing us together in common purpose and respect.
We are deeply grateful to the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) and the 8th Rifles for their participation and continued service. Their presence lent solemn dignity to the proceedings and served as a living connection to the sacrifices of the past and the service of today.
As wreaths were laid and silence observed, Bishop Auckland stood united—young and old, civilian and service member—in honour of those who gave their all. The Remembrance Service was not only a tribute to the fallen, but a reaffirmation of our collective promise: to remember them always.
