Ben represents GB in pool

Ben recently represented the GB U19 squad in Bosnia.

Sedgefield Water Polo Club have congratulated club member, Ben Alderson, 18, who recently represented GB U19s in the pool at the European Qualifiers held in Trebinje, Bosnia.

GB finished 4th in their group after playing matches against France, Czech Republic, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Finland, with one win and three losses.

Ben, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, but whose father is from Shildon, managed to finish the competition on six goals for GB, and explained that “although the tournament’s outcome wasn’t as we hoped, the experience was nothing short of amazing.

“Playing against France, whose team comprised mostly semi-pro and professional players, was a true test of skill and determination.

“Despite the odds, I managed to score two goals against them, which was a personal victory for me.

“The atmosphere, the camaraderie with my teammates, and the thrill of competing at such a high level made it an unforgettable journey.

“I’m immensely grateful for Sedgefield Water Polo Club’s unwavering support throughout this endeavour.”

Ben started his water polo journey with Sedgefield Water Polo Club when he was just six years old, progressing through the talent pathway through regional academy, national academy and national squad.

The club has excellent links with the England Talent Centres, with many of its young members aspiring to have the same success which Ben and many of his other team mates have experienced over the years.

In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, Sedgefield Water Polo Club now offers a beginner session at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport.

They are always looking for new members and offer free trials.

All sessions need to be booked in advance on the Club App, so please check their website for further information and joining instructions, email sedgefieldwp@hotmail.com or contact 07579 030598.
