Sedgefield Water Polo Club would like to congratulate Ben Alderson (18) who represented GB U19’s at the Senior Men’s EU Nations Tournament in Brno, Czech Republic from 8-10th December, writes Paul Taylor.
Ben was vice captain of the team and scored a fantastic 11 goals over the duration of the tournament, making him GB’s second highest goal scorer.
As this was a senior men’s tournament, the GB team used the event to gain valuable European game play in advance of their European Qualifiers which are being held in March 2024.
Their first game was against the USA where the boys sadly lost 20-11.This was followed by a 10-5 loss against Finland and a 13-13 draw against Finland, with Ben scoring the equaliser with just one second remaining on the clock.
Play-off games included a 13-8 win against Wales and a 19-18 loss against the Czech Republic – meaning the team came away in 10th position.
Ben has been a member of our club since he was just six years old and has always dreamt of representing his country.
In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, Sedgefield Water Polo Club now offers a beginner session at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport.
