The Beehive Coffee Shop, which opened in June, has seen early success in both sales and community outreach, following feedback provided in a recent customer survey.
Profits made from the Beehive are reinvested into the Angel Trust charity, meaning more support for local people.
In association with the Angel Trust, the coffee shop was opened to offer a big chain experience at an affordable price for local residents.
The Beehive employs full-time staff alongside a fantastic team of volunteers.
Serving breakfast, lunchtime specials and handmade cakes, the Beehive is proving popular amongst County Durham residents and those travelling from further afield, with some even commuting over an hour to visit.
The Beehive recently conducted a survey of its customers, with over 95% reporting that they enjoyed the dining experience.
After listening to the feedback, the Beehive is now opening on a Monday, starting in September.
The Beehive has also had its own success stories, including taking on a member of staff who was previously staying at the Safe Night Hub, which was opened by the Angel Trust in 2024.
Volunteers are at the heart of the coffee shop, helping with everything from baking scones to serving customers.
One volunteer, a young lady named Katelyn, was recently awarded Angel of the Month for her contribution to the shop and its customers.
Commenting on its success, CEO of the Angel Trust, Clair McGregor said, “We are so proud of how well the coffee shop is performing.
“It was a big risk for us to take on, and after many sleepless nights it is so rewarding to see our hard work come to fruition.
“We have a great team of staff and volunteers, and initial feedback from our customers was brilliant.
“We are now also opening on a Monday, serving a reduced menu to meet the needs of our customers.”
Judith Ballan, manager of the coffee shop said, “We have a range of great products available, and we are looking at ways to diversify our stock even more.
“With a fresh bakery counter and homemade chutney’s proving popular, we are meeting customer needs in lots of different ways, and continuing to see success.”
Located on Kingsway, Bishop Auckland, the Beehive Coffee Shop is now open for dine in and takeout, Monday to Saturday, 8am-3pm to meet the needs of locals who gave feedback on the store’s opening times.
