Longstaff’s Bakery in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, has been an early beneficiary of the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Security Grant Scheme. The well-loved local bakers, which has been established for many years, has recently found itself to be a target for criminal activity, but now boasts significant improvements to its security.
Emma, the senior staff member at the bakers commented, “The security grant has proved to be invaluable for myself and the employees at the bakery, the grant has helped us share peace of mind at night, when it’s time to lock up and go home. “Without the security grant we wouldn’t be able to have that peace of mind, especially with business premises been vandalised or burgled so frequently.”
The scheme has been established to provide increased security measures and “target hardening” improvements to SME businesses in the Bishop Auckland and Shildon area, which have often been seen by criminals to be easy targets for theft and damage.
As a result of these improvements, businesses which engage with the scheme and benefit from both the crime prevention survey and potential grant funding can effectively deter criminals and thereby reduce the negative impacts that crime has on the business, its staff and customers.
