Awards for cricketers

Shildon Railway Cricket Club held its annual Presentation Night at the B.R. Social Club last week, and celebrated the end of season in style.

The clubhouse was full to see Shildon Mayor, Councillor Henry Nicholson, a former long serving player with the club, present the awards.

Skipper Greg Upton spoke of the 1st team’s exploits before enjoying a particularly successful night by winning the 1st team batting trophy, being voted the player of the year and receiving the Jack Watson Trophy, awarded for the season’s best individual performance.

Chris Young won the 1st team bowling award, whilst the 2nd team awards went to Del Owen (batting), Matty Franklin (bowling) and Matty Summerbell (player of the year).

The Ken Stainthorpe Trophy for the most improved player went to Adam Jenkin and the John Raw Trophy for clubman of the year was awarded to Paul Upton. Chairman John Brennan thanked everyone who had helped the club throughout the season and looked forward to 2016 when a new era for the club begins, as it enters the second oldest cricket league in the world, the North Yorkshire and South Durham League.
