Anthony Jacques, currently of Railway Street, Bishop Auckland, pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court recently.
The 30 year-old is accused of assault by beating and of occasioning actual bodily harm on a woman in Bishop Auckland on November 27th.
It is alleged that after a disagreement with his partner, Jacques had grabbed her by the arm, banged her head against a brick wall and bitten her finger. The defendant denied the facts of the case and his solicitor claimed that there was also an element of self defence in the matters.
Jacques pleaded guilty to a further charge of criminal damage arising out of the same incident.
He will return to the court on April 14th and was released on bail, conditions of which include him residing at his bail address, not entering Woodhouse Close Estate and not contacting the alleged victim.
