Voting has closed, the votes have been counted and the image with the most likes, and therefore the winner of South West Durham News Photo of the Year 2024 is Paul Dobson’s ‘Before the Fences’, depicting Newton Cap Viaduct in his home town of Bishop Auckland.
An honourable mention goes to ‘Coming Home for Christmas’ by Gillian Wise in second, and ‘Fog & Flood’ by Louise Foster in third place, with just one vote separating them.
The overall response to the competition was beyond our most hopeful expectations with 260 entries in total and 871 public votes cast for the twelve finalists.
Many congratulations to Paul and a massive thank you to everyone else who submitted photos throughout the year. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing and displaying the talent of the local region.
Finally, a special thanks to Bondgate Gallery for sponsoring the competition and providing the prize of a framed print to our winner.
