Last week, the Dean Bank Ambassadors for Community Change, joined by Amy the Neighbourhood Warden, took to the streets of Ferryhill to launch a heartfelt campaign aimed at keeping the town safe, clean, and proud.
Armed with brightly illustrated leaflets titled “Help Us Keep Ferryhill Safe and Clean – A Step by Step Guide,” the team began distributing their message door-to-door, sparking conversations and smiles along the way.
The guide was created by Ambassadors from all Ferryhill’s primary schools, who collaborated to design a practical and friendly resource for residents. Over the coming weeks, these young changemakers will continue delivering the leaflets, hoping to inspire neighbours of all ages to take small steps that make a big difference.
“We love playing in our back streets,” one Ambassador shared, “but they’re not as fun or safe when they’re messy. Keeping them clean shows how much we care about where we live.”
The leaflet offers clear, illustrated tips to help residents manage waste responsibly and keep shared spaces tidy. Key advice includes:
Put bins out by 7am on collection day and bring them back in the same day—don’t leave them in the street.
Don’t block roads or paths with bins.
Avoid overfilling bins, as this may prevent them from being emptied.
Wash and squash recycling items to save space and keep bins clean.
Park considerately, leaving access for bin lorries.
Keep bin lids closed and pick up any litter that falls around them.
Only use bins assigned to your property—no sharing or swapping.
Don’t leave waste bags next to bins, as they won’t be collected.
