On Friday 18 October, Shildon Amateur Boxing Club held it’s first show of the season at a sold out Civic Hall and the crowd did not leave disappointed.
Shildon started with two lads making their debuts as Lennox Hinds and Kenzie Brand got their first taste of action in front of an audience. The impressive Henri Brown and then Jacob Murray rounded off the skills bouts before the scoring bouts.
It was a bad start for Shildon though, as Tommy Jardine and Tommy Forrest ran up against more experienced opponents, although they pushed them all the way.
Kenzie Watson lost a close decision but gets his chance of revenge in a rematch on the 1 November. Joseph Brown got Shildon off and running before the break with a well earned points victory.
After the interval it was the Seniors that stole the show.
First up was Shay Glaister having a rematch with Benwell’s Kevon Kelly which was non stop toe to toe action. Shay won on a unanimous decision.
Next up Alex Hubery was defending his Tyne, Tees and Wear 54kg title against Sky Taylor from Old School Darlington and again it was a great fight. Alex held on to his title following a split decision.
Top of the bill saw Kian Dixon boxing Benwell’s James Dang for the vacant Tyne, Tees and Wear 63.5kg belt in a bout that saw Kian use all of his skills to run out as a unanimous winner to end the show in style.
