A Bishop Auckland man is due to reappear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on April 9th, after the Bench found itself not in the position to advance his application for Legal Aid. Fifty two year-old Barry Jones was unable to give the court his National Insurance Number when facing charges that he had set fire to clothing belonging to his wife on February 25th.
The court heard that Mr. Jones and his wife have been married for over thirty years, but that police have expressed concerns about their relationship. Mr. Jones also faces a further charge relating to an incident of Public Order, alleged to have taken place on March 2nd.
Jones was released on conditional bail and ordered that he live and sleep at Suffolk Street in Stockton – on – Tees, further, that he should not enter County Durham other than to attend court or a police station and, thirdly, that he should make no contact with prosecution witnesses.
