Spennymoor Cricket Club enjoyed a successful 2025, capped off with the first XI winning the Darlington & District B Division for the first time in the 64 year history of the competition.
This success rounded off what has been an incredible year for the club, with the reformation of a second XI team built around junior players, who themselves finished 3rd in the C Division. It also saw the club introduce an under 9’s team driven from the All Stars training being delivered all year round.
The first XI lost only 3 times on their way to winning the league, securing the title by beating 2nd place away from home in the penultimate game of the season. This made it back to back league wins for the club since the reopening of the pavilion in 2023 following the fire in 2018, as well as consecutive wins under captain Cameron Dewey.
After a long absence, a second XI competed in the Darlington and District league. This has helped create a strong youth contingent at the club, with a bright future. The senior players who have played in the team can’t be thanked enough, for their part support and ensuring they can make it to away games.
Notable mentions for the first XI go to Tom Whittaker who scored 445 runs @ 37.08 and finished 6th overall in the Division. For the bowling, Richard Templeton finished joint 1st in the Division on 31 wickets @ 9.61, with Chris Hardwick finishing 5th on 25 wickets @ 14.76.
Notable mentions for the second XI go to Dennis Gorton for his 35 wickets, mostly for 2nd XI, @ 11.29. Oliver Littlefair who scored 156 runs, finishing as top run scorer. And Tyler Anderson for the best bowling figures of 6/31.
On a similar note, special mention to Oliver Littlefair for completing a senior team hat trick.
The club would like to take the opportunity to thank the unsung heroes of the club, those that volunteer in a non-playing role and the local business that support the club through donations.
