Hundreds of cowgirls and cowboys of all ages invaded Raby Castle on Saturday 28th June for the Western Walk in aid of the Butterwick Hospice.
Lonestar re-enactment group set up camp for the weekend in true western style, entertaining the crowds with their living history Frontier Town. Visitors were shown the type of weapons used, authentic dress and pills and potions of the time.
Patrick Townsend of the Lonestar group said, “We have really enjoyed our weekend at Raby Castle, all of our members took part in various roles, some were even on the walk route as bandits in the wood and saloon bar workers. We will definitely be returning next year for this event, with more members and even some Indians.”
Also on show at the Western Walk was a demonstration of Western style dressage and fast and furious Barrel Racing, performed by Sammi Nash of Northern Lights.
Participants moseyed off on the 5km walk around the beautiful park and farm land of Raby Castle, catching a glimpse of the wonderful deer and even a black swan. Lots of participants were walking in memory of loved ones, family and friends.
Live entertainment was provided throughout the evening from local artists Tom Harker, White Line Fever, Lee Davis and headlining was Mike Ward from The Voice.
An amazing £13,000 was raised through sponsorship for this event.
Clair McGregor, fundraiser said, “The day has gone really well, everyone has seemed to enjoy the entertainment on offer and we have raised a great amount for the hospice. We hope to build on this event year on year and continue to raise funds to help our local community.”
