Former pupils of Ferryhill Comprehensive School’s Class of 82 gathered last Saturday for a reunion that proved friendship really does stand the test of time.
The event brought together classmates from near and far for an unforgettable afternoon of reminiscing, laughter and a few happy tears.
“We weren’t sure what to expect,” said Glenys, “but from the moment people started arriving it felt like we’d only left school yesterday.”
Classmates travelled from as far afield as Mexico, Norway, Hong Kong and the south of England to reconnect with old friends. For some, it was the first time they had seen each other in more than 40 years.
As the stories flowed, so did the emotions. Old friends hugged, laughed, cried and then laughed some more. Friends who didn’t make it to their 60th year were remembered too. Memories were shared of teachers, school trips, first crushes and the experiences that shaped our teenage years.
The reunion was a reminder that while life may have taken classmates to different corners of the world, the bond formed during their school years remains as strong as ever. It was great to catch up not only with those who had travelled great distances but also with friends who had remained close to home.
Glenys would like to thank everyone who came along and helped make the evening such a success. Special thanks also go to Tony for the 80’s music, Louise for the fabulous cup cakes and retro sweets and Ferryhill Village Club for providing the perfect venue and helping create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the celebration.
Ferryhill Comp Class of ’82 may be older and wiser, but they certainly haven’t forgotten how to have a good laugh together.
