Spennymoor Gala

Spennymoor Gala Committee has announced details of the 68th annual Gala, with the main event taking place on Saturday 1 July. It consists of a Gala procession through the centre of Spennymoor, starting at Barnfield Road and finishing at Victoria Jubilee Park.

Free family entertainment will be provided in Jubilee Park for the remainder of the event, from 12.30pm until 4.30pm, including the Croxdale Motors Group Music Stage featuring local bands.

The Gala will also present Out of the Deep Blue as part of the 2023 Autin Dance Theatre international world tour. This outdoor performance tells the story of Eko, featuring a 13-foot Giant Puppet and contemporary dancers, inspired by themes of the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis.

Culines fun fair will operate from Thursday 29 June until Sunday 2 July.

The 2023 Enchanted Forest Parade will incorporate fantasy, nature, and magic elements to create a mystical atmosphere. An enchanted forest is where anything can happen, populated by mythical creatures such as fairies, unicorns, and dragons. It represents a journey into the unknown, where the characters must confront their fears and learn to trust in their abilities. It can also be a symbol of transformation and growth, where characters undergo a process of self-discovery and emerge stronger and wiser for their experiences.

Local shop and business owners are encouraged to participate in the Gala Window Dressing Competition which will be judged by the Town Mayor the week leading up to the Gala Day, so the winning entrant can proudly display the Spennymoor Gala Culine Family Award trophy in their window.
