Shildon Wagon Works Reunion

From midday on Sunday October 8th, Shildon Railway Institute will be hosting a ‘Works’
reunion; nothing formal, just a good old fashioned get together. Ex Works employees,
friends and families are invited for a catch up, a chance to swap stories of their time at
Shildon Shops and to raise a glass to absent friends.
The last reunion in 2019 marked the 35th anniversary of the Works closure and a grand
day was had by all. Attendees enjoyed an exhibition of memorabilia and premier showing
of a specially commissioned film ‘The Full Works’, but most of all, people enjoyed the
opportunity to get together and share memories. Many suggested an annual reunion,
after all none of us are getting any younger, but unfortunately covid came along and
derailed things somewhat.
June 2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Works closure and we are keenly aware
that we are losing more friends and colleagues with every year that passes. Therefore it
feels timely to host a social event this year, as a precursor to the big anniversary.
If you have an amusing or interesting story write it down to share on the memory wall
We’d like to use the opportunity of next month’s get together to canvass opinion on how
you’d like us to mark the 40th anniversary so that we can start planning.
Members may bring along two guest and all must sign in.
