History Society Talk – Ferryhill

The April meeting of Ferryhill History Society will take place on the 24th at the Ferryhill Station Workingmens Club.

The speaker will be Chris Lloyd author, former Journalist of the Year and chief feature writer at the Northern Echo.

Chris’s talk will be on: Attacking the Devil and Sinking the Unsinkable: WT Stead and the Titanic.

WT Stead, the Northern Echo’s most famous editor, was the most famous British person to drown on the Titanic, parts of which were made in Darlington. The talk looks at the career of WT Stead and the short history of the Titanic.

Stories will include, Britain’s greatest mass murderess, getting beaten up by a ghost and Stead’s role in the introduction of the world’s first child protection legislation.

The meeting starts at 7:30pm and there is a £2 charge.
